Karla Krueger  Karla Krueger’s beginnings were rich in entreprenuerism. Karla’s grandparents, Larry and Vivian Krueger,
owned Krueger’s Sports Shop and a tavern in Beloit. Furthermore, her parents, Dick and Carol Krueger, owned
the bar and grill known in the Beloit-Janesville area as Krueger’s Cove.Karla knew at an early age she would be an independent business owner, but not with a bar or restaurant like the two generations before her. Art was Karla’s passion and escape. She was determined to find a way to be involved in art and still make a living. At the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Karla began an impossible schedule of classes, sports and three work study jobs. Karla also served as President of the Art Student Association and was the director for NOTA (a student art publication.) Scholastically, Karla was on the Dean’s List, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor and Leadership Society and graduated in 1984 as a Cum Laude Honor Student with a double major. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education (K-12.) After graduation, Karla began her career as a freelance graphic artist for a Janesville business. Later, she decid-ed to start her own business in graphics. For her start-up business to survive, Karla felt she had to remain out of debt. She saved up $5,000 and in 1985, she purchased a vital piece of equipment called a Photostat camera. With that camera and her drawing table from college, Karla launched Krueger Graphics from her small apart-ment. In 1986, she moved her business and her increasing inventory of fixed assets to her own home at 319 Pease Court. As the business continued to grow, Karla once again became cramped for space. In 1992, she found the ideal location, 2400 Woodruff Blvd., Janesville, WI. In the 1980’s, innovative companies like Apple Computers began marketing desktop computers and software that would take the place of the graphic artist’s traditional tools, like the drawing table and Photostat camera. The computer created mechanical artwork more accurately in less time. With the use of a modem and telephone lines, communication with clients, printers and other suppliers became more efficient. Karla knew if she did not become computer literate her business would not survive. By margining her stocks, she purchased her first high-powered desktop computer ($20,000+.) In 1992, she became the first and only graphic artist in the area to offer computer-generated artwork. Yet, there were no local schools to teach her how to use the computer and the software. She spent countless hours learning her profession all over again. Technology changes by the minute. Everyday new programs and updates appear with changes to learn and conquer. Karla makes it a priority to keep up with improved hardware and program updates. Krueger Graphics, Inc. is based on cutting edge computer-generated graphics; but more importantly, her services focus on customers needs.
